I hope the title of this post is a little provocative — thankfully it’s not my title but that of Claudio Oliver a Brazilian Pastor and long term worker and advocate amongst the poor, who is one of SURRENDER:10’s keynote speakers, so I’ll leave him to do the job of explaining just what he means. Mmm.. interesting perspective. I think I’d say something slightly different – I have a load of things (money, education, contacts etc) which I have not earned. And that gives an obligation on me to use them on behalf of my brethren who do not have those things.
I totally agree that a top-down approach is unhelpful, but I don’t agree that I have nothing to offer. What is certainly true is that my offering should be in brokenness and without seeking to be a saviour.
