Part-time and Short-term training
Urban Seed runs campaigns four times a year that offer opportunities for people to engage in acts of advocacy on social justice issues, connect with the healing narrative of our street and hospitality work, and participate with us in building communities of healing, hope and justice. You can opt in to hear about these opportunities here. Often these campaigns will have a bible studies series which invites small groups to explore the biblical basis for these community engagement practices in the weeks leading up to an event.
Christian Youth & Community Work Training
Praxis offers a Diploma of Youth Work, a nationally recognized qualification, offered in partnership with Tabor Victoria. The course is made up of three parts: Work placement, Training Block Courses and Process Groups.
Work Placement learning is most effective when it happens alongside actual youth work experience. All students work in a church, community organisation or other agency.
Training Block courses: there are 5 block courses each year, each of 7 days. Four are held in Victoria and 1 in New Zealand.
Process Groups: these are small groups that meet between block courses to reflect on your learning and work placement.
In doing Praxis, you’ll meet new people, try things you’ve never tried and learn things in new and interactive ways. Praxis isn’t about constant lectures, but about learning in action. We believe that we learn best when we’re challenged in different situations. You will learn through adventure-based learning (ABL), cultural exchange (in Australia & New Zealand), sharing stories and trying out what you’re learning in real youth & community work.
